Switzerland joins 10th package of EU sanctions against Russia

GENEVA, Mar 30 (PRIME) -- Switzerland has joined the 10th package of E.U. sanctions against Russia with an exemption for group of media companies Russia Today, the State Secretariat for Economic Affairs said late on Wednesday.

"At its meeting on March 29, the Federal Council decided to enact further sanctions against Russia. This aligns Switzerland with the E.U., which recently adopted a tenth package of sanctions," the statement read.

The sanctions against Russia Today encompass only a prohibition of advertisement, while other legal relations are not banned. Broadcasting is still allowed.

Switzerland would also introduce humanitarian eases in sanctions to be able to provide some services and for the sanctioned individuals to recover their assets under some conditions.

"Through today's decision, it has prevented sanctioned Russian banks from coming into possession of large stakes in two Swiss high-tech companies and thereby indirectly benefiting from the sanctions," the ruler said.
